Gian Marco Tosi

Gian Marco Tosi was born on June 18, 1971 in Siena. He graduated in Medicine in 1996 at the University of Siena and completed his residency in Ophthalmology in 2000 at the same University. He obtained a Ph.D. in Ocular and Oral Tumor Pathology in 2004. He spent his first post-doctoral experience at the Department of Ophthalmology directed by Prof. Stanley Chang, Columbia University, New York, USA, attending a 1-year fellowship program in vitreoretinal surgery. He has been the Chairman of the Ophthalmology Unit at the University Hospital of Siena since 2015 and the Director of the Ophthalmology Residency Program since 2018. His recent research activity focused on three main topics: ocular immunology, (in close collaboration with the Rheumatology Unit, with a special interest in Behçet disease), vitreoretinal diseases (with a mainly clinical approach focused on postoperative sequelae of pars plana vitrectomy and other surgical procedures), ocular angiogenesis, (mainly in wet Age Related Macular Degeneration, in close collaboration with the Department of Biotechnology). Such research activities lead him to coauthor a total amount of 103 articles published in international peer-reviewed journals, with an overall Scopus h-Index of 22 (66 publications during the last 10 years, with ah-Index of 15 in the last 15 years).
