Piero Paladini

Piero Paladini has obtained his medical degrees and certification in Thoracic Surgery at the University of Siena, Siena, Italy. He is appointed as associate professor at Siena University and he is Thoracic Surgeon at the AOU Siena Hospital, Italy. Since 2014 he is the Chairman of the Lung Transplant Program and, since 2016, he is Professor and Head of the Thoracic Surgery Unit at the University Hospital in Siena. For 2016 he was Director of the Department of Cardiac, Vascular and Thoracic Surgery. In 2017 he got the II Level Master in Robotics in Thoracic Surgery at the University of Pisa. His clinical expertise is general thoracic surgery, mainly oncologic, with special reference to ground-glass opacities management, locally advanced lung cancer treatment, hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy for the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma, and lung transplantation from donor and recipient selection to late follow-up. He run a research activity on thoracic diseases and lung transplantation related issues, and he managed a research line on early detection of organ rejection by searching donor circulating DNA in patients undergoing lung transplantation and two programs, of ex-vivo reconditioning of marginal donor lungs and non-heart beating donors. He is author or co-author of more than 250 manuscripts on various fields of thoracic surgery, from management and treatment of benign conditions to lung transplantation. He attended several national and international meetings as a speaker or moderator.
