Marco Mandalà

Prof. Marco Mandalà received his medical training, residency and phD at the University of Siena (Italy). He is an otolaryngologist involved in neuro-otology and oto-neurosurgery. His present position is Medical Director at the Otologic surgery and Skull Base Surgery Unit at the University of Siena. He trained as neuro-otologist and oto-neuro surgeon with Prof. D. Nuti (Siena, Italy), Prof. D. Zee (Baltimore, USA), Prof. A. Bronstein (London, UK), Prof. V. Colletti (Verona, Italy) and Prof. R. Shannon (Los Angeles, USA). His present research areas are: clinical otoneurology, Implantable hearing and vestibular devices, genetic mechanisms of inner ear disorders, etiology and pathogenesis of vestibular neuritis and benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, long-term effect of unilateral vestibular lesions, effects of electromagnetic fields on auditory and vestibular system, cochlear, brainstem and middle-ear auditory implants. He is author of 3 patents in vestibular rehabilitation, treatment of tinnitus and wireless recording of eye movements. He is author of more than 60 indexed publications in international journals and book chapters in the field of neuro-otology and otolaryngology, reviewer of indexed journals (Laryngoscope, Frontiers in Neuro-Otology etc.) and member of the Barany Society.
