Edmondo Trentin 

Edmondo Trentin received his Laurea "Cum Laude" in Computer Science from the Universita di Milano (Italy) in 1990 (awarded with the Rotary Youth Leadership Award), and his Ph.D. in Automation and Information Engineering from the University of Florence (Italy) in 2001 (awarded with the Caianiello Prize for the best Italian Ph.D. Thesis in the area of neural networks and machine learning from the IIASS, International Institute for Advanced Scientific Studies). From 1990 to the end of 1993 he worked as a Project Leader at SGS-Elsag SpA. From 1994 to 2000 he was a research scientist at ITC-irst (Istituto per la Ricerca Scientifica e Tecnologica, Trento, Italy), in the area of Interactive Sensory Systems. Since December 2000 he has been carrying out his research and teaching activities at DIISM, Università di Siena, Italy, where he is a Professore Aggregato in Artificial Intelligence. ET taught more than 50 courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels over 4 Countries. His research interests include bioinformatics, artificial neural networks (ANN), statistical pattern recognition, hidden Markov models (HMM), and hybrid ANN/HMM systems. He is the author of more than 70 scientific publications. He received the Best Paper Award at theInternational Conference on Artificial Neural Networks (Vienna) in 2001, and he received the nomination for the Best Paper Award at the International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (Hong Kong) in 2008. ET is the Chair of the IAPR-TC3 (International Association for Pattern Recognition Technical Committee 03 - Neural Networks & Computational Intelligence), and an Associate Editor of the journal Neural Processing Letters (Springer). Previously he served as Vice-Chair of the IAPR-TC3 (years 2013-2014 and 2015-2016), and he held the Secretariat of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (years 2005-2006).
