Fabio Coppedè

Prof. Fabio Coppedè earned his Master’s Degree in Biological Sciences and his PhD in Microbiology and Genetics from the University of Pisa. He has conducted research as academic visitor at King’s College London, visiting researcher at the University of California at Berkeley, and postdoctoral researcher at both the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm and the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Pisa. In 2013, he joined the Department of Translational Research and of New Surgical and Medical Technologies at the University of Pisa, securing a permanent faculty position in 2015. He is currently a Full Professor of Medical Genetics and the Director of the Interdepartmental Research Center of Biology and Pathology of Aging of the University of Pisa. He is also Head of the Genomics and Epigenomics Laboratory of the Centre for Instrument Sharing at the University of Pisa, and a member of the board of the Research Center of Nutraceutical and Food for Health of the University of Pisa. At both National and International Levels, he serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the Italian Society of Environmental Mutagenesis and Genomics, and as Coordinator of the “Epigenetics Working Group” of the Italian Society of Human Genetics. He is also a Member of the Board of Directors of the Epigenetics Society and of the Italian Federation of Life Sciences. Moreover, he serves in the board of numerous genomics and epigenomics journals. 

His primary research interests focus on the genetics and epigenetics of human diseases, with particular emphasis on neurodegeneration, cancer, autoimmune diseases, neurodevelopmental disorders, and Down syndrome. He secured funds from several local, regional, and national agencies, including Tuscany Region and the Italian Ministry of Health, and is currently associated partner of a European Research Consortium on autoimmune diseases funded under the Horizon Europe’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. He was the recipient of several awards, including the “Best Young Researcher Award” from the Italian Society of Environmental Mutagenesis and Genomics. The scientific activity of Prof. Coppedè is documented by more than 170 indexed articles (Scopus H-index = 47).
