Giulia Freer
Giulia Freer was born in La Spezia, Italy, in 1962. She graduated in Biology in 1986 at the University of Pisa. She obtained a PhD in Viral Immunobiology, partly carried out at the laboratory of Prof. T. J. Braciale, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, USA in 1991. She worked as a Researcher at Institut für Experimentelle Immunologie, Universitätsspital Zürich, Switzerland (Prof. Rolf M. Zinkernagel and Hans Hengartner laboratory) as a postdoc for 3 years, during which she addressed the interactions of vesicular stomatitis virus and the immune system. In 1995, she became a Researcher of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Pisa, where she teaches microbiology to medical students and other undergraduate students. From 1999 to 2016 she was involved in diagnostics as a microbiologist and a virologist at the University Hospital, Pisa. In 2016, she became an Associate Professor at the Department of Translational Research and New Technologies in Medicine, University of Pisa. Her fields of interest are immunology of viral diseases,viral replication and interactions with the host. She is an Author in over 70 publications on international.
